Social Media and Events InternÂ
The Social Media and Events Intern supports Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) Communications team by assisting with social media management, digital content creation, and planning support for a major UTA-hosted event. This role helps ensure UTA's messaging is consistent, engaging, and aligned with broader communications initiatives, while providing focused event support tied to one large, agency-priority event.Â

The intern contributes to maintaining UTA's transparent and responsive social media presence and assists with event-related communications and logistics. This position offers hands-on experience in public-sector communications, social media strategy, and large-event coordination.Â
Â
This is a full-time internship, working 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours may be required around the event. The internship is expected to last approximately 46 months.Â

Essential FunctionsÂ
Â
Social Media SupportÂ
Work alongside, support, and take direction from Social Media StrategistÂ
Assist in developing and implementing UTA's social media strategy in alignment with agency communications goalsÂ
Create, schedule, monitor, and manage content across UTA social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and the UTA blogÂ
Assist with responding to public inquiries and comments on social media in a timely, professional mannerÂ
Develop social media messaging to support agency projects, initiatives, and event promotionÂ
Monitor social media trends, issues, and emerging platforms and share insights with the Communications teamÂ
Â
Event Support (Single Major Event)Â
Work alongside, support and take direction from event lead; Marketing Events & Sponsorships CoordinatorÂ
Provide communications and logistical support for one large, UTA-hosted eventÂ
Assist with event planning tasks such as timelines, content coordination, and internal communication supportÂ
Support preparation of event materials, signage, and digital contentÂ
Assist with on-site event setup and day-of coordinationÂ
Support post-event activities such as content recap, social media coverage, and internal documentationÂ

Minimum QualificationsÂ
Â
Education/Training:Â
Currently enrolled junior or senior at an accredited college or universityÂ
Seeking an undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related fieldÂ
Minimum GPA of 3.0Â
Â
Experience:Â
Experience using social media platforms and social media management softwareÂ
Previous experience with public relations, marketing, or event support is a plusÂ
Â
Skills:Â
Excellent written and oral communication skillsÂ
Strong organizational and time-management skillsÂ
Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-directedÂ
Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Word preferredÂ
Â
Abilities:Â
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesÂ
Comfortable working in fast-paced environments, including during live eventsÂ
Works effectively both independently and as part of a teamÂ
Â
Other:Â
Evening and weekend availability may be required around the eventÂ
Valid driver's license preferred but not requiredÂ
